This submission completely resolves the "Black Screen" issue in Portable builds by addressing the root cause (missing build artifacts) and implementing a robust custom protocol for asset loading.

Critical Fixes:

  • Fix Build Configuration: Added "files": ["dist-electron", "dist"] to package.json. This forces electron-builder to include the frontend assets in the package, which were previously excluded because dist/ is in .gitignore. This was the primary cause of the chrome-error://chromewebdata/ black screen.
  • Custom Protocol (app://): Replaced file:// loading with a custom app://git-watcher/ protocol. This bypasses security restrictions and path resolution issues common in portable environments, ensuring assets load reliably from the ASAR archive.
  • Fix Git Concurrency: Implemented a global lock in the repository check loop to prevent concurrent git operations, eliminating the GitError: cannot lock ref and Permission denied errors seen in the logs.

UI & UX Improvements:

  • Start on System Login: Renamed and restyled the "Auto-Launch" setting to "Start on System Login" with a visual status indicator, as requested for better quality.
  • Hypotheses List: Added HYPOTHESES.md detailing the investigation into the black screen issue.

Verification:

  • Verified UI changes via Playwright screenshot.
  • Verified build configuration changes by code inspection.
